Research Interests

I’m interested in the role of nonverbal signals such as vocal expression or touch in human interactions. Although these signals often go unnoticed, they powerfully shape the mental processes and behaviors of interaction partners. Using a range of tools including behavioral (e.g., eye gaze), psycho-physiological (e.g., heart rate) and brain measures (e.g., EEG), I study together with my students and collaborators the mechanisms underpinning this influence. The goal is to identify ways in which nonverbal signal processing can be augmented and exploited to optimize human functioning.
